Gaw Yan Gyi Island – GYG
Dear readers,
Most tourists came to Myanmar especially intend to relax at the beach or tour around Ngwe Saung such as –
* Elephant camp
*Chaung Tha Beach
*Birds Island
*Sinma Fishing Village
But they do not know !
There is a mervalous hidden place called Gaw Yan Gyi Island situated 25 miles ( 40 kilometers ) south of Ngwe Saung and they do not know how interesting to tour there!

This is one of my favourite places to visit .
You will surely love to see the real jungle of Myanmar.The beautiful way to Nga Yoke Kaung is really amazing and difficult to drive. You have a choice to go there by boat .It’s about 200$ to go there by boat . Taking boat trip to GYG is an amazing and interesting plan as well ! That’s easier to get there by motorbike driving along the wonderful mountain way .Sometimes,you can see the flowing rivers while you’re on mountain ranges. It is also a nice idea to go there by the coast after relaxing with a book at the beach .We need a special permission to get there as it is a prohibited area as well.
We have to take a boat from Nga Yoke Kaung to Kyway Chai village for 25 minutes along the small stream.And then driving way to the island is a kind of coconut forest road and fishermen’s village.
I can surely say that Gaw Yan Gyi Island is the most beautiful island in Myanmar.Both side beaches and standing fishing boat along the beach will offer the romantic feeling as it’s definitely beautiful.
if you are a photographer ; don’t miss to go there as I can surely recommend .Being a difficult situation when I was there in 2013 we cannot sleep there but we had chance to sleep in a local small guest house when we visited there again and spend the amazing time beneficially.
If you like Ngapali beach , you will definitely love to be there Gaw Yan Gyi Island.
I am very pleased to make friend a couple from France since more than ten years ago because they love to go and stay there once a year.So , for me what a wonderful opportunity! We used to go there by motorcycle along the coast. It is also a very nice idea to see the nature, to meet the locals .
Gaw Yan Gyi is the most beautiful place than I’ve ever been.
Gaw Yar Gyi Island (1 night 2 days trip )
Note – just for young people keen on mountain biking adventure.
1.start from your hotel in Ngwe Saung at 6:00Am and take breakfast in a local village on the way .
2.Driving on pleasant way ( a bit bumpy , sandy and dusty !!! ) and take photos all along the way .
3. Visiting to some local roadside villages on the way
4.Stop at the Nga Yoke Kaung Junction for lunch and keep driving on more hilly road , if you plan to go back by regular road
5.Taking short boat trip to get to Island and spend the sunset there.
6. Dinner in a local village’s restaurant with draught beer .
7.Accommodation in a guesthouse of Nga Yoke Kaung Small Fishermen’ Town or in a very nice traditional bungalow on the beach Gaw Yan Gyi !
The Second Day
1.Breakfast in the village to find out various kinds of local snacks , if you stay in Ngayoke Kaung village
2. Next day boat to the Island which has both side beach . Visiting around the island including short time tracking on the island and walk along the beach to speak with fishermen.
3. Visiting to local Karen & Rakhaing fishermen’ villages along the beach .
4. Lunch in a village (Rakhaing or Karen) with families.
5.Photography walking tour for fishing boats along the beach .
6. 2:00Pm leave the town to set off the trip back to Pathein by driving for 4 hours or to Ngwe Saung ( 3 hours )
